What is Adoption: The Adopt-A-Player Program…My Tiger…OUR CHAMPS pairs a Mizzou Volleyball player with a group of students on campus (typically a floor/section of a residence hall).
The player attends social events with the group (as their schedule allows) and the group of student’s cheer on the player at each match by yelling, cheering, bringing energetic friends to the match, and making signs etc.
Benefits of Adoption: “Adoptees” will meet the player and talk with them, ask them questions in order to get to know them.
“Adoptees” will receive updates about their “adopted” player over the course of the season.
Throughout the season there will be competition between “adoptee” groups of who is cheering the loudest, making the best signs, etc.
“Adoptees” who support their player consistently will be invited to attend a practice during the season, take a tour of the locker room, and meet the team.
Mizzou Volleyball will honor “adoptees” and they will receive an official adoption papers recognizing their efforts.
Adoption Needs: “Adoptees” are encouraged to inspire their “adopted” player throughout the season. Be creative!
Going Above and Beyond: Ideas to support your “adopted” player throughout the season:
• Go to an away match.
• Send a birthday card.
• Make a sign or banner.
• Send notes before a match-deliver them to the Volleyball Office, 395 Hearnes Center by 12:00 noon on game day to have them put in the players locker.
• Bring a large group to cheer on your player.
The Rule: NCAA regulations prohibit any student organization from providing a gymnast with any extra benefits (gifts, food, etc.).
