The mission of the Tigers for Tomorrow Career Development Program is to provide comprehensive career guidance for all current and former University of Missouri student-athletes. We are committed to building personal relationships with student-athletes at all points in their career development.
Life Skills Workshops
Fall 2010
1. “If I Would Have Known Then What I Know Now” – Tuesday, September 7th, 2010 from 7:00-8:00pm (MATC Classroom)
A panel of fifth year or former student athletes will give advice to first year student-athletes about making the most of their time at Mizzou.
2. Presenting Inspirational Guest Speaker, John O’Leary - Monday, September 13th, 2010 from 7:00-8:00pm (Mizzou Arena, South Side seating)
MU Athletics will partner with Wells Fargo to welcome inspirational guest speaker John O’Leary. The presentation of his touching story will begin at 7pm and will take place on the south side of the Mizzou
Arena. Student-athletes and various Columbia community youth organizations with get together to attend an ice cream social before the event. The ice cream social will take place in the Clinton Club (south side of Mizzou Arena) at 6:15pm.
3. Gatorade Pong – Monday, September 20th, 2010 from 7:00-9:00pm (Hearnes Fieldhouse)
Athletes will pair up to compete against each other in a Gatorade Pong tournament. This tournament will focus on alcohol education featuring a speaker, alcohol facts, and will hopefully show the athletes they can have a great time without alcohol. Tiger Cup points given for all participants as well as winners!
4. Professional Communication Workshop – October
Student-athletes will learn the importance of communication in a professional setting. The athletes will learn proper etiquette for face-to-face and written communication as well as communication via technology (ie: Facebook, MySpace, e-mail, etc)
5. Etiquette Dinner – Tuesday, October 19th from 7:00-9:00pm (Clinton Club)
This workshop will be limited to the first 96 athletes to RSVP. There will be a free four-course meal with instructions for proper etiquette throughout the evening. This event is a great networking opportunity!
6. Finance Workshop – Monday, November 8th from 7:00-8:00pm (MATC Classroom)
Student-athletes will learn the basics of savings, investing, and how to avoid unnecessary debt while living on a small budget. Jake Czeschin from Edward Jones will host the workshop.
7. Networking Night - Mid November 2010
Junior, Senior and 5th year student-athletes will have the opportunity to learn about networking through a “speed networking” event at a men’s basketball game. Professionals from around the area will attend and the athletes will network with them for about an hour and then sit with them throughout the game.
