Andreas Plackis, a sophomore on Mizzou's baseball team set a goal this summer to do 120 community service hours and ended up doing a total of 152 hours of Community Service during the summer! Andreas is the perfect example of a scholar-athlete going above and beyond to serve the community.
Below are Andreas's personal thoughts and experiences regarding life and community service throughout the summer.
My name is Andreas Plackis and I am a sophomore on the MU baseball team. This summer I spent a lot of my time volunteering and helping out around the community. The benefits from this experience were beyond anything I would have ever expected. FCA camps, Show-Me State games, the Veterans’ Hospital, Rainbow House, and Lunch in the Park were all places I had opportunities to serve. The thing I will remember most about these opportunities is all the relationships I developed while working. I still keep in touch via email and facebook with many younger kids and adults with whom I quickly became friends. Seeing the impact you can make in someone else’s life is truly a blessing. Some organizations are founded solely on volunteers, and the need is always growing. They are always so thankful, and what better way to show you care then by dedicating some of your time to a good cause. Mizzou is a place full of opportunities where you can grow and express yourself however you would like. As for me, I know that this community service will go beyond this summer. I cannot wait to get started and see what else I can accomplish this year!
Go Tigers!
